4 AM Poetry Flood

I couldn't sleep well last night.  When I woke up, a little after 4 am, my mind was racing with scraps of new rhymes: rhymes I'd never written before, nor read.  Naturally, I grabbed my phone and texted them to myself as quickly as I could type.  When I got up today, I cleaned up the typos that I noticed, and the punctuation I had omitted in my rush, and here they are.  There are 13 poems here.

Quack

The goose said,  "Quack!
“Quack!  Quack!  Quack!”
The duck said,
"Give my quacker back!
“Quack!  Quack!  Quack!
“Quackety,  quack,  quack!”

Sun nor Moon

The sun so hot up in the sky,
’Twould not be good to call him nigh;
The moon so cool all through the night:
Nor would calling her be right.
**
 New Moon

The Man in the Moon
Wanted company;
Then he looked up,
And a new moon did see.
The big, round moon
Has found a friend:
A tiny thing,
From end to end!
**

Cat on My Head

There's a cat on my head!
As I lie in my bed,
I must be loved,
To get a cat on my head!
**

Mister’s Lament

Oh, squeaky toy,
Why won't you play?
You we're a mouse,
With fur of gray;
Now you're dead,
And will not run,
But hunting you
Was jolly fun!
**

Popsicle

The ice cream truck!
We'll buy a treat!
Ring-a-ting-ting!
Ring-a-ting-ting!
A popsicle cools
Summer's heat!
Ring-a-ting-ting!
Ring-a-ting-ting!
**

PB&J

Put some peanut butter
On the bread;
Some jelly, too,
And we'll soon be fed!
**

Fishing

Fishy,  fishy,
Swimming in the sea,
Pray swallow my hook,
And be dinner for me!
**

Super

Read a book,
And fill your mind
With treasure of the rarest kind;
Read each day
At least an hour,
And knowledge becomes
Your super power!
**

A Reader

Clever is he
Who chooses to read,
For he can thus learn,
Everything he may need!
**

Halloween

I fill up my cauldron
With candy so sweet;
And carve jack-o-lanterns –
Soon we'll go
Trick-or-treat!
**

Contrition

Bless me,  Father,  for I have sinned,
I have not loved as God loves me;
I I want to love and to forgive,
So that in Heaven I may live.
Every sin I've done, I do repent;
Absolve me,  and let me penance serve,
Even though I don't deserve
The salvation that you bought me,
On the Cross on Calvary.
Amen.

Raindrops

Plip,  plop,
Splish,  splash,
The rain streams down
The window pane.
Drip, drop,
Splash,  splish,
The rainbow brings
The sun again.
